Every year my family goes to Rough River for Labor Day and we stay all weekend. We are big eaters so there is always plenty of food to eat. Most of the weekend is spent on the water, fishing, corn-hole, sitting by the fire, and hiking. There are aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters, memaw and papaw's all up there, it is a tight fit but no one complains because we are just happy to be able to go at all.
I can remember one Labor Day weekend when I decided that I wanted to learn how to water ski. I had watched my older brothers do it and just knew that I could do it too. So we went out and bought some training skies so I could practice with them. My oldest brother and me were just floating out in the water trying to get use to floating on your back. He was giving me all these pointers but I couldn't catch them all because I was more focused on getting bit by a snake and falling on my face. Well we got the right ski on and then put the left one on, as soon as that left one got on I knew that it was game time. I began getting really nervous knowing that soon that fast boat was going to try to rip me out of the water on these two boards. I was just wondering how in the world they were going to be able to keep me from sinking. The rope was in my hands and arms were straight just waiting to give the okay to my papaw to take off. Once I felt comfortable I gave him a nod and he put that boat into high speed, I came up out of the water and to my amazement I was on top of the water skiing. That day I accomplished something and was proud that I actually did it. Now we are trying to teach my little sister to ski but is some what harder than when I was taught how to ski
